As a result of the Russian-Ukraine conflict, the social media network Instagram was unavailable in Russia on Monday after Moscow accused its parent corporation Meta of enabling demands for aggression against Russians, including military personnel, to be posted on its services.
The decision comes following Facebook and Twitter ban in early March as part of a broader effort by Moscow to control information available to Russians regarding the country's military incursion in Ukraine, which began in February.
Instagram was included on a list of "restricted" internet sites published by Russia's media regulator Roskomnadzor on Monday, according to the organization.
Russia has a large number of people who use Facebook and Instagram, the latter being the most major social media network among young Russians.
Instagram was a critical tool for many small Russian enterprises, serving as a medium for promoting, processing sales, and engaging with customers. The ban of Instagram has made a ripple effect all across Russia. Individuals as well as businesses and companies are suffering due to this decision.
