The flight was en-route from city Kunming to Guangzhou. The pilot lost airborne contact over Wuzhou. The China Eastern Airlines said that the flight had 123 passengers and 9 crew members on it, which is about right.

Soon after the crash, the rescue teams, fire brigades, and paramilitary police, some with dogs, deployed to the crash site. Also, local villagers rushed to help after seeing flames from a distance.

Excavators worked to clear a path for 600 soldiers, firefighters, and police to search while they marched on three sides of the mountain. Communication equipment's and supplies, and drones were delivered to the site to help in rescue operations.

The tracking devices used to detect the fall of the plane stated that the plane had sharply dropped down vertically from an altitude of 29,100 feet to 3,225 feet in the span of three minutes, before flight information stopped.

According to Dan Elwell, a former head of U.S. regulator the Federal Aviation Administration,

"Accidents that start at cruise altitude are usually caused by weather, deliberate sabotage, or pilot error."

The cause of the crash is under investigation as nothing can be stated without proper research. The state-run Beijing Youth Daily quoted an eye witness:

"The plane fell vertically from the sky. although I was far away, I could still see that it was a plane. The plane did not emit smoke during the fall. It fell into the mountains and started a fire."

This is a hard and grieving time for the victims' families as they are anxiously waiting for news. As the rescuers found more debris and personal belongings like wallets, jewelry, identity cards, and purses, they threw them away from the location. All of the items were collected as sources of evidence.

To deeply console and condemn the emotional incident, the China Eastern Airlines website changed to black and white. Also, soon after the incident, the company offered an emergency helpline.

Wang, the chief editor of Aerospace Knowledge magazine, told CGTN:

"If the data in the box is safe and complete, we could know what happened to the aircraft and in what condition it was flown. It may tell us what exactly caused the tragedy."

He also said that maybe the black box that can reveal all the causes of the plane crash may have been damaged due to the fire caused by the crash.

Also, he stated that it was most likely an unintentional crash by the pilot. The plane's behavior depends upon the contact between the towers. So, from this, it can be seen that the pilot lost contact and the plane crashed.

The crash incident happened on three sides of the mountainous area, with a single path leading to the site. Therefore, motorbikes became the major source of transport to the crash location.

Passengers and their Families

Although the Civil Aviation Administration has yet to identify and declare the passengers and crew members, their families are in mourning.

One woman reported online the loss of her newlywed husband. Including video clips from her wedding trip.

Another woman missed a flight that was part of it, but her sister and some friends ended up dying in the crash. Arrangements are being made to take families to the incident site in Wuzhou.
